As of July 10, 2024 the current water level is 1" to 2" the wing wall at Harris Creek Dam - quite high for this time of year.

The gates have been opened about 4" to reduce water levels. Members may have noticed a fair bit of activity in and around the dam in recent weeks. This activity is driven by the need to reduce the flow of water down Harris Creek to facilitate the replacement of the culverts under highway 17 (please see George Craigie's report on the highway 17 construction in this newsletter.

There was some discussion with the MNRF about lowering the water levels in Basswood this summer to facilitate this project and ensure minimum water flow down the creek in the event of a high rainfall event while the construction was ongoing. However, the MNRF has chosen to protect against high water flows by placing sand bags on the dam wing wall and just above the culverts.

Huron Shores and BBLA will continue to monitor activity as the project unfolds this summer and continue to engage with the MNRF throughout the summer to monitor ongoing water levels as the season unfolds.
