Welcome to the Big Basswood Lake Association
Our mission is to preserve and protect the quality and natural beauty of Big Basswood Lake and its watershed: leading the lake community in making sound choices towards sustainable solutions.
Beautiful Big Basswood Lake (a.k.a. Wakwekobi Lake) is located on the north shore of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada (roughly 46°19' 83°22'30'), in close proximity to the communities of Thessalon, Thessalon First Nation, Little Rapids, Iron Bridge and Wharncliff. The closest commercial airport is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (YAM), with daily flights servicing Toronto, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and points beyond.
The Big Basswood Lake Association (BBLA) is a community-led organization whose membership is open to lake residents, friends, neighbors, visitors, and all who share a common love and appreciation for the pristine beauty of Big Basswood Lake and its surrounding wilderness. Our goal is to ensure the preservation of this unique natural resource in perpetuity for future generations.

Get the latest news and updates on issues affecting the lake community.
The BBLA board is proud to announce the publication of the Fall 2022 BBLA Newsletter. Twice every year, the BBLA board works hard to provide updates on the many issues affecting our community. In this issue, you can learn about the outcome of the 2022 Huron Shores Municipal Elections and our lake community's involvement in important citizen science projects to protect the health and natural beauty of our watershed. We also cover topics affecting our members' quality of life, such as a disturbing burglary on Frairs Bay Road.
