The Big Basswood Lake Association created a Facebook Page in March of 2012 and it has been very popular, with a current following of 839 users. In conjunction with our Big Basswood Lake Association website, these platforms have served asthe online face of our Lake Association.
The FB Page has published AGM, concert and other event announcements, posted photos, communicated ice in and out dates, shared valuable lake stewardship information and reports, water quality findings, septic system resources, historic stories of relevance, a photo / calendar contest and much more.
This summer we decided to expand our social media presence with a private BBLA Facebook Group and we are happy to announce that 172 members have joined. Are you curious about the difference between a FB Page and a private FB Group?
The primary purposeof a FB Page is public relations, official announcements and community outreach. Anyone on the Internet can view the posts and although followers can comment, only the admins can post directly.
In comparison, a private FB Group’s purpose is to encourage discussion, community building and neighbour to neighbour help. Privacy is higher, as members must be approved and content is hidden from the public. Any group member can post content, and we have been delighted to see this taking place, in the few months that the BBLA FB Group has been running.
