    Water Rangers Program

    As reported in our last 2 newsletters, members of our lake community participated in the provincially sponsored Water Rangers Program in 2024. Specifically, testing was done last year by Bobby Swain in the east basin and Paul and Tania Hazlett in the West Basin. Last winter, Dr Ho-Tossane of the Nordik Institute contacted the Environmental Services Committee of Huron Shores about a project that she was initiating to collect do fresh water sampling along the North Shore.

    t was another unforgettable summer on Big Basswood Lake this year and a joy to reunite with family, friends and neighbors. Highlights for me included visits from several friends who had never been to Big Basswood and were astounded by the natural beauty of our pristine shared natural resource.

    This year's Big Basswood Lake Association Annual General Meeting was held at the Sowerby Round Barn on Thursday, July 17. Those attending were presented with a wide range of topics and issues relevant to Basswood Lake residents.

    This was an unusual year in terms of water levels on Big Basswood Lake. The spring and early summer was quite wet with average to above average snowmelt and early summer rainfall.

    As of July 10, 2024 the current water level is 1" to 2" the wing wall at Harris Creek Dam - quite high for this time of year. The gates have been opened about 4" to reduce water levels.
